Counterfeit Culture

Hi Friends!

I'm so happy to connect with you once more!  As 2016 ends in just a few days and we begin the new year, I am encouraged to share a few posts that has been burning in my heart for a LONG time now.

Exposing a Counterfeit Culture as it relates to our spiritual life and relationship with our Creator.

When you hear the word counterfeit.....what comes to your mind?  The dictionary defines counterfeit as:
  • An imitation or copy of something, usually with the intent to defraud.
  • To carry on a deception; make fraudulent copies of something valuable.
  • Made in imitation of what is genuine with intent to defraud

So, you may be wondering, how does deception, imitation, intent to defraud, and fraudulent copies of something valuable relate to our Spiritual lives?  Well, lets take this journey together to explore and EXPOSE spiritual counterfeits.

I invite you to join me as we uncover a few topics over the next few weeks. I'm excited and I hope you are too

Book Review: Glory Days

Hi Friends,

Can I tell you how in my head, Author Max Lucado is my favorite Uncle?  This man is gifted, talented and anointed to write.

In my last book review I mentioned that I don't buy books, I normally get my books from the library. I am seriously considering buying this book and I wouldn't mind reading it again.

The book Glory Days is such an inspiration; Uncle Max uses such ease, humor, reassurances, and faith provoking illustrations to bring to life Joshua's story, as he lead the children of Israel into Canaan\The promised Land.  The book is arranged into manageable thought provoking chapters.  I could not read more than one chapter at a time because I was so blessed by each lesson that I had to stop and absorb, pray at times, and praise God at other times.

My courage, faith and confidence has been blessed by reading this book. There is no question Glory Days is a highly recommended read.

Book Review: Seeking Allah_ Finding Jesus

I was interested in reading this book to to hear all about the Author's experience converting from Islam to Christianity.

As usual, I checked my local Library and they had a copy...Win for me since I'm not a book buyer.

In this book, the Author, Nabeel Qureshi, takes you on a journey into his immediate family's everyday life as a child growing up and gives a glimpse of his culture, upbringing and religious indoctrination.

It was while in College outside of the direct influence of his family that he was exposed to the doctrines of Christianity.  He shares his battle to accept the truths of Islam and a greater battle to accept the truths of Christianity.

The book is broken into several mini chapters that gives broad snippets into Nabeel's life experiences. If you enjoy philosophy of theories and reasoning's and all things Philosophy related you will enjoy his story on how he dissected and came to accept the truths of Christianity.  I had to skip a couple chapters since the "philosophysations"  were a bit much for me.

This book is an enlightening read if you would like to be taken on a personal journey of one who grew up in a "orthodox" Muslim home who found and accepted Christianity and the consequences and grace that followed.

Cultural Expression: USAIN BOLT

My Friends,

Long time since I've posted a Cultural Expression post.  As expressed previously I am from the beautiful Island of Jamaica and I occasionally share posts related to Jamaica and Jamaicans.

Well, today is an occasion where I want to BIG UP Usain Bolt!!! Three time Olympic champion, holding several gold medals for 100 and 200 meter races. For the past three Olympic games and has won a total of 8 Olympic Gold Medals.

I truly enjoy his 'persona' as he plays and relates with others and certainly his 'showman' style as he celebrates his victories.

This is Usain's final Olympics as he plans to retire after the Rio games.  So very proud of his accomplishments and how he has represented Jamaica during his Career.

The song in the video below reminds me of how Usain has lived out his dream and accomplished his goals as a Track and Field Legend.

Book Review: Jesus Jihad and Peace

Hello Friends!

I'm excited to share this book review with you, because the subject is something that I wanted to understand for a while now.

This book, Jesus Jihad and Peace was definitely a page turner for me.  It drew me in by explaining the Islam/Muslim religion and the various sects and what they believe and why.  It also drew parallels to Christianity and allowed the reader to understand the root nature of what is taking place in our World today.  I was not surprised by the differences, but just in awe of the fundamental beliefs, motivations, and objectives of this Group.

The Books author, Michael Youssef, was born in Egypt, and spent the first 19 years of his life in the Middle East.  Dr. Youssef is a Christian Pastor and this background gives tremendous credibility to facts he shares.

I was touched by the last Chapter on Peace.  I will not give too much away in case you are interested in reading the book, however, we are presented with three types/perspectives of  Peace : Deceptive Peace, Dark Peace, Divine Peace.  It's not hard to figure out what Divine Peace is all about if you are a believer in Jesus Christ.

Christian believers, following Christ or calling ourselves Christians is not a cute play.  Should you be accosted and forced to denounce Christ or face death, will you buckle? or, will you remain steadfast in your faith?  Let us examine ourselves and declare by Faith, for God/Jesus I live and for God/Jesus I die, blessed be the Name of My Lord.

Heard my mom singing and humming the words to a song we have not heard in a very long time, it just came and the words flowed.

The words to the song "I am so satisfied" ministered and reminded me of my satisfied state with Christ my redeemer, my savior, my best friend, my KING, my Daddy, my EVERYTHING......

Greatness Defined

Sharing a brief quote from my lesson study reading this morning.  This spoke to me and I was compelled to share.

Matthew 18:1-4 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them,   and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

" To define true greatness, Jesus called a child to stand before Him and said, “‘Whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven’” (vs. 4, NKJV). Jesus didn’t talk about being a great preacher, or a great businessman, or even a great philanthropist. Greatness, in the sight of God, is what we are inside, not what we do externally, though no doubt what’s inside will impact what we do externally.

Notice, Jesus defines greatness in a way that most people in the world don’t. After all, who wakes up one day and decides that the greatness he or she wants in life is to be as humble as a little child? It seems strange to us, to aspire to something like that, but this is only because we are so tainted by the world’s principles, ideas, and concepts."

Our perceptions are so skewed by worldly standards; May God help us me to realign our my thinking to His principles and standards.

State of the Nation

Don't know why there has been a block on writing lately. It's not like I don't have thoughts running through my mind. There has just been a pause in my spirit; nevertheless I am going to pick up the "pen" of inspiration once more, and press towards written thoughts once more.

This morning while doing my devotional reading in  II Chronicles, my thoughts drifted to the State of this Nation, who's founding fathers/leaders highly esteemed God, and His moral laws.  The evidence of God's morals and laws from the early 1700s through 1800s is evident in the words engraved in various monuments and memorials of powerful and influential men of Leadership from America's past history  are displayed around the U.S Capital...

Selected Quote form

Selected Quote from

There is no wonder the US flourished economically, and with relative security of its land and people over the years.  But I pause to reflect on current state of affairs.....

Is God's Morals and Laws currently being upheld/esteemed/regarded by current Leaders of Government?

Is God being acknowledged in any way?

Is God being consulted for decision making?

Here is link to II Chronicles 15  compare it to the events that occurred in 11 Chronicles 16

  1. What are the significant points of note from your perspective in chapter 15?
  2. What changed in Chapter 16? and what did you learn from this account?
  3. Is there hope for America?  If so, how is it possible? (Clue can be found in 11 Chronicles 7:14)

Satan Called a Convention

Satan called a worldwide convention of demons. In his opening address he said, "We can't keep Christians from going to church. We can't keep them from reading their Bibles and knowing the truth. We can't even keep them from forming an intimate relationship with their Savior. Once they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over them is broken. So let them go to their churches; let them have their covered dish dinners, but steal their time, so they don't have time to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. This is what I want you to do," said the devil: "Distract them from gaining hold of their Savior and maintaining that vital connection throughout their day!"
"How shall we do this?" his demons shouted. "Keep them busy in the nonessentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds," he answered. "Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow. Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles. Keep them from spending time with their children. As their families fragment, soon their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of work!"

"Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice. Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive. To keep the TV, [social media], CDs and their [Smart Phone] going constantly in their home and see to it that every store and restaurant in the world plays non-biblical music constantly. This will jam their minds and break that union with Christ. Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers. Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day. Invade their driving moments with billboards. Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products, services and false hopes."

"Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching their children the real meaning of Christmas. Give them an Easter bunny so they won't talk about his resurrection and power over sin and death. Even in their recreation, let them be excessive. Have them return from their recreation exhausted. Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on God's creation. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, plays, concerts, and movies instead. Keep them busy, busy, busy!"

"And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences. Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from Jesus. Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause. It will work! It will work!"

It was quite a plan! The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing Christians everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and there, having little time for their God or their families and friends. Having no time to tell others about the power of Jesus to change lives. I guess the question is, has the devil been successful at his scheme? You be the judge!
Does "busy" mean:

To Say Thank You

Here is a little gift to you my faithful blog friends.  Thank you for your kind Birthday thoughts, affirmations and prayers for me.

I've been generally such an ultra private person to some degree on the blog. I'm going to see if I can get out of my "shell" a little more this year.  I mentioned in a post last year that I bought a fancy cannon camera and wanted to share some pictures as I practise and develop some photography skills.

The pictures I'm sharing below are about a year old or so.

The pictures below were taken Spring 2015

Touch Base/Random

It has been  a while since I have written a "proper" post.  I miss writing especially my series themed posts, they inspire me so much.  I have been quite busy and haven't had time to write posts as I use to.
I thought it would be great to do a mini catch up post on "my life lately"...

1. One of my goals the past two years was to find a Church closer to home where I could be/get involved.  I've been blessed to do just that and become involved in the various ministries like, Women's ministry, Community Service etc.  To top it all off, several months ago my Pastor called me out of the blue and asked me to preach a sermon for him at church during his absence.  I was surprised shocked and was wondering to myself where and why out of the blue this request came from.  Well the Man of God said he believes I am Anointed and believes in the Anointing on my life.  I have since preached spoken twice at church. I praise God for using me to touch lives, bring inspiration, awaken the consciousness, courage and hopefulness to not only others but myself too.

2. I was selected to receive a raise in pay on the job recently. This is significant for me and I thank God for the continuous flow of Favor/blessings in my life and career.

3.  My mom traveled to Jamaica in December and stayed for 3 months!!!!  If you've read my blog for a number of years you would know that I'm a Mama's girl.  I thank God for protection during her travels and reuniting us again.

4. I permed my Natural hair over the summer.  Did not process it again until a few weeks ago (about 9 months). It's a welcomed change I must say after being natural since 2008. I've been in mostly protective styles though- wig, braids (which I learnt to do my self several months ago, was one of my goals.) I've been purposeful about taking care of my hair and it is GROWING healthy and beautiful.

5.  My oldest Son is turning 15 next month!!! My, he is still such a sweet child teenager. I'm so proud of him and continue to pray for God's favor to guide and direct his path.  The other son is turning 5 next month also, he doesn't like me much, don't know why but he adores my Mother; oh well.  The youngest is turning two next month as well and his parents are gifts of friendship. My prayer is that God continues to bless and keep them.

6.   Even though I am yet to marry(one of my life goals/ been on my check list for a LONG time waiting to be checked off); My joy is full and I have peace.

Thanks for reading and your support!!  Tell me, what are your favorite kids of post you look forward to most from this space?

Singing: Jesus Saves

Romans 5:7-9 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good.

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.

Jesus Saves
Tasha Cobbs

Romans 5:10-11 Now that we are set right with God by means of this sacrificial death, the consummate blood sacrifice, there is no longer a question of being at odds with God in any way. If, when we were at our worst, we were put on friendly terms with God by the sacrificial death of his Son, now that we’re at our best, just think of how our lives will expand and deepen by means of his resurrection life! Now that we have actually received this amazing friendship with God, we are no longer content to simply say it in plodding prose. We sing and shout our praises to God through Jesus, the Messiah!

You Thought I Was Worth Saving...

Anthony Brown

Romans 5:18-21
Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

GRACE: An Amazing Gift

Grace is not something we "earn" because of our faith, any thing that we do or don't do or our beliefs. Grace is simply a gift that our Creator showers us with

Grace gifts include: Favor, Blessings, Strength, Protection, Provision, Salvation

Ephesians 2:8 (NLT) God saved [us] by his grace when [we] believed. And [we] can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

I Met a Fellow Blogger!

Hi Friends! How are you treating 2016 so far? Hope you are working intentionally towards your dreams/goals.

So, guess what?!  I had the great privilege of meeting a fellow blogger recently.  I always hoped I would, and the opportunity presented itself.  I follow/read a few marriage related blogs as I aspire to be a wife in this lifetime.  One of such blogs is  Intentional Today written by Ngina; Ngina is originally from Kenya,  she is an "early wed" wife and Christian blogger who writes passionately about all things marriage.

Well, at the end of  this particular post Ngina says " I want to meet you...." and she further indicated that she lives in Maryland!  So of course, I responded  that I would love to meet her and that I also live in Maryland.  After several off line exchanges, we discovered that we live in the same region just a county over from each other and we set a date to meet a Panera.

Not sure if I should share that on the evening of our meet up, I fell asleep and was late but thankfully not horribly late!

Ngina was so gracious and patient.  We had such comfortable conversation getting to know each other, general chit/chat.... took some selfies that I was hoping to post here but having issues.

Ngina was so kind and brought a gift for me!  She gave me a copy of her latest book Blues to Bliss

I've started reading the book and will give a full review once I've completed it.  It was such a pleasure and joy meeting a fellow blogger.  We promised each other that we would meet up again once the weather breaks.  By the way, the very next day after our meet up was the epic snow storm we experienced on the east cost.

If you are married or looking forward to marriage check out Ngina's blog Intentional Today.  Lots of wisdom nuggets for growth and enlightenment shared from personal experiences.

BOOK REVIEW: The Circle Maker_Praying Circles Around your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears

Ladies and Gentlemen this book is HIGHLY Recommended, a must read for all believers!

It took me a long time to complete reading this book.  The distractions I experienced while trying to complete the book were something else but I realized that there was a "fight" going on in the spiritual realms for my attention and I decided to buckle down and complete the book. Nonetheless, it was an highly inspiring read.

Honestly, at first I was a little distracted by the opening premise about a Jewish legend named Honi.  I was thrown off because I never heard of this account before and was a little skeptical. So I did a little online research about Honi the legend and discovered that his story/account is recorded in Jewish manuscripts.  After that,  I was more at ease and decided to delve in with confidence knowing that this was a true account.

My goodness, I don't know if I have the words to fully describe the depth of wisdom that this book offers. I don't know that I can adequately download here, but I can tell you that I have been blessed; I can tell you that my prayer life will never be the same;  I can tell you that Great things are going to happen in my life and I will be testifying about them as a result of reading this powerful manuscript.

My brothers and Sisters if you can get a copy of The Circle Maker (click on link for more info) by Mark Batterson please do yourself a favor and read this book.

Keys to Abundant Living 2016 and Beyond

Would you be surprised to know there are NO secrets to living an abundant life?  It is no secret because the word of God gives us everything we need to know on how to live abundantly; all we need to do is read the word and apply the principles to our lives that's the key.
Today I'm impressed to share a scripture text that has ministered to my consciousness and reminds me about the principles of remaining in the abundance of God's blessings....

To make the text below personal, keep these "synonyms" in mind:

**References to Egypt:  Your personal tests/trials
**References to Desert: A place of total dependence on God
**References to Destruction: Failure, Lack, Misery, No joy, No peace, No success

Deuteronomy 8

“Be careful to obey all the commands I am giving you today. Then you will live and multiply, and you will enter and occupy the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors. Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands. Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. For all these forty years your clothes didn’t wear out, and your feet didn’t blister or swell. Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good.

“So obey the commands of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and fearing him. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land of flowing streams and pools of water, with fountains and springs that gush out in the valleys and hills. It is a land of wheat and barley; of grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates; of olive oil and honey. It is a land where food is plentiful and nothing is lacking. It is a land where iron is as common as stone, and copper is abundant in the hills. 10 When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.

11 “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. 12 For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, 13 and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! 14 Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.

15 Do not forget that he led you through the great and terrifying wilderness with its poisonous snakes and scorpions, where it was so hot and dry. He gave you water from the rock! 16 He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good. 17 He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ 18 Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.

19 “But I assure you of this: If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, worshiping and bowing down to them, you will certainly be destroyed. 20 Just as the Lord has destroyed other nations in your path, you also will be destroyed if you refuse to obey the Lord your God.
